Monitor Size
The larger your monitor, the more the laptop will weigh. There are a couple of exceptions to this - for example the ‘Macbook Air’ is very light despite its large screen. The Panasonic Toughbook is heavy for its size.
If you need a larger monitor at home, but don’t mind so much on-the-move, it’s worth just buying a large monitor for home and plugging your laptop into it.
Battery Weight
Batteries are made up of several ‘cells’. The more cells a battery has, the longer you can go without plugging in your laptop. BUT - a longer-life battery also weighs much more. Generally laptop batteries come in either ‘3-cell’, ‘6-cell’ or ‘9-cell’ sizes. If you are looking for a light laptop, it’s worth making sure the battery life is long enough to make it useful.
Build Material
Many laptops today are made of aluminium, making them lighter than very dense plastics. The downside here is that aluminium laptops tend to cost more.
